Antibiotics for Treating Acne - Why Not?

916SKIN - ACNE TREATMENT CLINIC IN CHICO, CA

Antibiotics for the treatment of acne are among the most common oral medications prescribed by dermatologists.

Unfortunately, antibiotics kill off the beneficial bacteria as well as the P. acnes bacteria that reside on our skin and in our pores. Beneficial bacteria provide us with nutrients, aid in digestion, and contribute to a healthy immune system. Taking antibiotics not only kills off the bad guys - it kills the good guys too.

Bacteria have been around for a very long time. Cyanobateria-like organisms date back 3.5 billion years! So, these little suckers know how to adapt. There ability to evolve is why so many antibiotics have become ineffective. Over time, bacteria develop resistance to antibiotics, and when that happens, the antibiotic no longer works.

There are much more effective ways of treating acne without compromising your health. There are lifestyle choices and nutritional choices that influence oil production and the build up of dead skin cells - two main contributing factors in acne. There are also topical treatments that have proven to be highly effective - clearing acne in 3 to 4 months.

Does Coffee Cause Breakouts?

916SKIN - ACNE SKIN CARE PROGRAM IN CHICO, CA

Did you know...

Coffee is the most commonly used caffeine stimulant in the world.

On average, 54% of adults drink coffee
every day.

One 8oz cup of coffee contains approximately 145mg of caffeine.

The recommended daily limit of caffeine is 200-300mg.

Caffeinated coffee influences acne by triggering a stress response, spiking blood sugar, increasing oil production and potentially congesting the follicles.

The caffeine in coffee isn't the only culprit that triggers acne. It's the inflammatory "fixer-uppers" that make our morning ritual so very dairy delightful. I'm talking about the milk, the cream, the half & half, and of course, the sugar.

Dairy, sugar and salt are three of the worst acne offenders. Inflammatory foods and beverages will make any type of inflamed skin condition even worse. While coffee does have an impact on our skin, it’s the dairy and sugar we add to our coffee that’s more damaging to our bodies than coffee itself. If you must have coffee, try to stick to one small cup a day. Switch to almond or coconut milk, and limit your daily intake of total added sugar to 25 grams. Balance your cup of coffee with plenty of water to help flush toxins!

Bella's Therapeutic Massage Review in Chico, Ca.

916SKIN - ACNE TREATMENT CLINIC in CHICO, CA

BELLA'S THERAPEUTIC MASSAGE IN CHICO
located within
916SKIN - Acne Clinic.

"WOW! WOW! WOW! Bella gave me the most amazing massage yesterday! I love a strong massage...

I had an injury 15 years ago that still causes pain around my vertebra. So, I get nervous during a massage because I'm afraid the massage therapist will hurt me, or not know how to address the issue. This makes it really difficult to relax!  Bella new exactly what to do. Not only is she incredibly knowledgeable of body mechanics and anatomy, she's got a sixth sense to guide her. She used what she called  Myofascial Release, Traction, and Range of Motion massage techniques to address my pain. She is the first person that has been able to get into that tender area and give me relief. Bella's experience in Chiropractic Massage set me at ease, and I was finally able to relax and begin the healing process.

I strongly recommend BELLA'S THERAPEUTIC MASSAGE for pain management or total relaxation."

Why Didn't Proactiv Work For Me?

HELP FOR ACNE IN CHICO, CA at 916SKIN ACNE CLINIC

Proactiv Solution works for some people. So,why not give it a try?

It's affordable and easily accessible. What do you have to lose besides a little money, patience, and a sliver of your life - if it doesn't work.

Careful, proactive products contain sulfur to which certain people react. For others, it's just too drying and irritating to use on a daily basis.

Most patients who come to 916SKIN - ACNE SKIN CARE CLINIC have tried proactiv. They have found, that it works for a while, but then it stops working. Why?

The Proactiv Solution is a "one-size-fits-all" approach to acne. Different types of acne demand different products. And, different types of skin demand different types of products. This is why each patient in our ACNE TREATMENT PROGRAM goes home with a customized acne skincare system. The product combination is different for each person.

When an acne care system works for a while, but then stops working, this indicates that your skin has adapted to the product. This can mean many things. You may need a different active ingredient. You may need additional active ingredients, higher concentrations, or more frequency. There are many factors. This is why each person needs to be treated individually. Routine visits with an Acne Specialist gives you the guidance that you need, internally and externally, in order to get clear.

Toxic Overload (part 5)... Eliminate Toxins

HELP FOR ACNE IN CHICO, CA     916SKIN - ACNE & WELLNESS CLINIC

Flushing toxins from your body is key in the cleansing process. Toxins are eliminated through feces, urine, lungs, and of course, the skin.  When doing a cleanse/detox - the foods, herbs and supplements taken help remove stored toxins from the tissues. This process can do more harm than good if toxins are not properly eliminated. Poor elimination can lead to toxins being redistributed to the tissues, and to different locations - which could cause more harm and a host of different toxicity symptoms. To manage toxic overload, aim for 2 full bowel movements every day - typically the size of a banana.

How to eliminate toxins:
#1) Drink plenty of fluids - stick with filtered or distilled water and decaffeinated herbal teas to help the kidneys and the bowels flush toxins.

#2) Eat a diet high in fiber - fiber binds to toxins in the intestinal tract, which is eliminated with bowel movements.

#3) Exercise daily - a little huffing, puffing and sweating helps eliminate toxins through the lungs and skin.

#4) Take additional Magnesium if needed - Magnesium helps with bowel movements and is best take at bedtime.

Managing Toxic Overload (Part2)

916SKIN ACNE CLINIC    ACNE TREATMENT IN CHICO, CA

The first step in managing toxic overload is to reduce further exposure to nasty toxins:

Exposure to toxins is virtually unavoidable, but by adapting a "clean" lifestyle you can reduce the work load on your liver and improve nearly every aspect of your life. Eat organic foods whenever possible, avoid all processed foods, choose small fish over big fish including fish oils, consume oils, nuts and seeds that are fresh; improve digestion to prevent the fermentation of more toxins, see an alternative practitioner to seek alternative solutions to your medications, avoid plastics for food and beverages, use non-toxic cleaning products, reduce your exposure to environmental toxins, and remove mercury amalgam dental fillings. Although, removal of silver fillings can improve your health, improper removal can make your symptoms of toxicity worse, as the gas released during their removal contains mercury.

916SKIN - ACNE TREATMENT PROGRAM in Chico, California treats mild to severe and cystic acne without the use of prescription acne medications. To learn more about our program, please contact the clinic.  (530)680.2027

How To Get Clear BEFORE Your Wedding!

916SKIN - ACNE TREATMENT CLINIC IN CHICO, CA

"How long will it take to get clear before my wedding?"

We get this question a lot! The answer is different for each person. It depends on the type of acne lesions, the number of acne lesions, skin type, sensitivity level, and whether or not you have post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (dark marks from previous breakouts).

On average, patients on the 916SKIN Acne Program get clear in 12 to 16 weeks. Non-inflamed, low grade acne (blackheads and whites) can be stubborn to treat, whereas, inflamed and cystic acne often responds quickly to treatment. Some patients experience clear skin in as quick as a 1.5 months, while others may take as long as 5 months.

If you've waited until the last minute, and only have a few weeks before your wedding - don't panic! Stressing over it will only make your breakouts worse. Although, 3 weeks is not nearly enough time to get you completely clear, there is still a lot that can be done in just a few weeks.

To get started, call the clinic and schedule an acne skin care consultation. (530) 680.2027

How To Test for PCOS

916SKIN - ACNE SKIN CARE CLINIC in CHICO, CA

PCOS - Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome

Symptoms of PCOS can vary dramatically from person to person, in both type and severity. To be diagnosed with the PCOS, your practitioner looks for at least two of the following:

Polycystic Ovaries: vaginal ultrasound (sonogram) is helpful in diagnosing PCOS. The sonogram determines if the ovaries have cysts. A positive sonogram is not a diagnosis for PCOS, as many women have polycystic ovaries, but do not have PCOS.

Menstrual Irregularities: infrequent, absent, or irregular periods. This may include:
  • less than 8 menstrual cycles per year
  • more than 35 days in between periods
  • skipped periods or no periods at all
  • regular, but light periods lasting 1 to 2 days with scant bleeding
  • prolonged periods with scant or heavy bleeding

Elevated Androgen Levels: Signs of increased androgens (male hormones) may include:
  • hirsutism - excess hair on face, thumbs, toes, abdomen, back, or chest
  • oily skin, acne, or dandruff
  • androgenic alopecia - male pattern baldness or thinning hair

Keep in mind, signs of elevated androgens vary with ethnicity. For example, women of Northern European or Asian descent show little to no signs of raised androgens.

Deep Peels For Acne - Yay or Nay?

ACNE SKIN CARE PROGRAM IN CHICO, CA     916SKIN - ACNE CLINIC

If you have acne, a deep chemical peel IS NOT for you! Acne sufferers are often so fed up, they are willing to take extreme measures to get rid of their acne. Trust me, a deep chemical peel is not the answer. You can get amazing results through a series of conservative treatments and minimal discomfort - that even the biggest wimp can tolerate!

Deep chemical peels are used for the treatment of deeper facial wrinkles, severe photoaging, and occasionally pre-cancerous growths. Deep chemical peels, are formulated to penetrate into the lower dermal layer of skin.  To manage any discomfort, the treatment is performed under anesthesia and mild sedatives. Due to the relative invasiveness of deep chemical peels, most patients are prescribed pain medications during the initial phase of the healing process. In general, the redness may last two to three months while the swelling will resolve within two weeks.  Despite the longer downtime, the treatment can provide a dramatic improvement which can last up to 10 years.

To learn more about our Acne Treatment Program, or which type of acne treatment is most beneficial for you, please call the acne clinic at (530) 680.2027
