Halloween Makeup... BOO!!!!

916SKIN - Acne, Skin & Wellness Studio is an acne clinic in Northern California.
530.680.2027

For my acne prone peeps, I suggested coming up with a Halloween costume that doesn't require face makeup. Of coarse certain mineral makeups are o.k., but I'm talking about Zombie, Witch and Vampire type makeup. Equally hazardous is hairspray, spray paint for hair, and face lacquers to seal makeup. You can bet on a zit that these products have many pore clogging ingredients in them!!!

Stick with mineral makeups (Mineral Mines, Bare Minerals, Young Blood, Color Science, Jane Iredale), which have a range of colors from pale to dark. Come up with a costume that allows you to dress up your eyes and lips instead of your whole face. You can use crayon liners on your eyes, but if you're oily, the oils in the liner may migrate down your face carrying other pore clogging ingredients with it, and poof... zits in 1 to 90 days!!!

A good alternative is mineral eyeshadow. Available in black too! Get yourself a little eyebrow brush, dip it in water, then into your shadow, and apply to eyes or lips. This is called "foiling." It makes a very defined line, and won't clog your pores!

If you Halloween enthusists insist on using nasty, pore clogging products for the sake of scaring away the dead, come see me the day after for an acne treatment to help prevent any up coming break outs.

916 wishes you a Happy Halloween!!!

Does Testosterone Cause Acne???

916SKIN - Acne, Skin & Wellness Studio that provides an acne treatment program in Chico, California. 530.680.2027

Too much testosterone may be one of the many factors causing your acne. Your body is constantly maintaining a sort of "peace among your cells," known as homeostasis. One way it does this is by producing the enzyme 5-alpha reductase when testosterone levels get too high. Although, it protects you from the effects of too much testosterone, 5-alpha reductase signals the sebum in your sebaceous glands (oil glands) to become thick and sticky. This spells trouble for those prone to acne because the sebum doesn't glide out of the follicle with ease.

This sticky meal provides quite the tasty treat for bacteria taking up residence in your follicles, and this energy dense meal provides lots of amo for bacteria to replicate. Alas, you awake with a giant, inflamed pimple, which in reality, serves as the womb for this colonizing frenzy!

Diets high in saturated fats including meat, milk, butter, peanut butter, and cheese increase 5-alpha reductase. Zinc, soy, flax seed, pumkin seed, and evening primrose oil are known to help inhibit 5-alpha reductase. Go for the omega sixes (linoleic acid)!

Acne Testimonial

Get results for your acne in Chico, California at 916SKIN - Acne, Skin & Wellness Studio.

"People don’t realize the psychological effects that acne can have on others, never knowing if you are going to look good from one day to the next. For years I’ve tried so many different products, but with very little effect. I dreaded going out, meeting people, going to any event where I would have to show my face, or have my picture taken. Nothing seemed to work for a long period of time. I finally accepted the fact that I would never have clear, acne free skin.

That was until I met Tatja at 916SKIN Acne Clinic. From the minute I met her, Tatja was enthusiastic & positive about solving my acne problems. Always encouraging me and always there to answer any questions I might have about the acne program. From day one the acne products felt like they were working, with no irritation to my skin. About two weeks after I started, following the regimen that was set out for my type of acne, I noticed my skin was starting to look much clearer. After three months my skin is now looking a lot better. My family and friends can’t stop complimenting me on how glowing and natural I look. I used to hate having my picture taken, but now I love it. :-D

Thank you Tatja for helping me achieve a better looking complexion."

What Is A Blackhead Anyway???

Acne surgery in Chico, California, also known as acne treatment with extractions, is available at 916SKIN - Acne, Skin & Wellness Studio. 530.680.2027

To an aesthetician (that's me) they're a package of scientific wonder, but to most they're just annoying. A blackhead, is many times, the first sign of acne. When extracting a blackhead, it appears greasy in texture or like a hardened mass of oil. So, it seems logical that a blackhead is just a small plug of sebum (oil) trapped in the follicle. While this is partly true, it's only half the story. A blackhead is also composed of dead skin cells, cell fragments, and bacteria. Oxygen makes its through the opening in the follicle, oxidizing the sebum, and changing its color (just like the air turns the exposed flesh of an apple brown).

Are You Washing Your Face The Right Way???

916SKIN Acne, Skin & Wellness Studio offers acne treatments in Chico, California.
530.680.2027

Are you washing your face the right way? Did you know there is a "right way?" Do you wash your face at all?

Some of my patients have discovered that by simply learning to wash their face correctly they can control their breakouts. For starters, how you wash your face depends on your skin type. Are you oily? Are you dry? Or, do you have combination/t-zone skin? You need a cleanser that is specifically suited for your skin type. Using the wrong cleanser for your skin can lead to breakouts. If you're not sure what your skin type is schedule a consultation with a skin care professional, and find out. You will want to get a professional cleanser from an aesthetician, spa, dermatologist, or plastic surgeon. Many over the counter products contain comedogenic ingredients (pore clogging) and are not pH balanced despite what the label says!

You want to wash your face every morning and every night - religiously. For those prone to breakouts, skipping this step even once can be the kiss of death!!! For those with dry skin, if you are using the right cleanser it will not dry you out.

Most of us swish the cleanser around on our face a few times and wash it right off. You have to give the cleanser a chance to work it's magic! It has to bind, and lift, and dissolve, and this takes a little time. Oily skin is much more resistant. You will want to spend at least 60 seconds washing your face with gentle, repeat...gentle, circular motions. Many people get stuck on the cheeks - don't fall into this robotic cleanse. Spend time on your oiliest areas... your forehead, sides of your nose, chin, jaw, etc. In the evenings, I recommend oily skin types cleanse twice in a row to get off the oily grit and grime from the day. Your goal is to have a squeaky clean face and minimize bacteria.

Cell turn over time takes 4 to 12 weeks depending on your age. This is the time it takes for new cells to migrate to surface of your skin. It can also take up to 90 days for a zit to surface. This means you may not see results from your improved cleansing habits for a while, but hang in there... it will pay off. If you are still breaking out after giving this a fair shot, it is time to take the next step in managing your breakouts. This requires a thorough skin evaluation.

916SKIN - Acne, Skin & Wellness Studio offers skin consultations in Chico, California. Sometimes referred to as a skin analysis, skin examination, or skin evaluation. Acne Program Question ~ Chico, Ca.

This is a common question about the 916SKIN - Acne Treatment in Northern California.
Consultations: 530.680.2027

Dear Tatja,
I've tried everything to treat my acne, but nothing has worked. And by everything, I mean ProActive, Murad, laser, blue light, prescription acne meds (this list is not exhaustive). I have a really hard time believing that you can get my skin clear in three months. How is this possible? What are you doing that is so different from everyone else?
~Sonja

Dear Sonja,
I get that question quite a bit, and it's understandable that you and many other acne sufferers are skeptical. My method of treating acne is based on the teachings of James Fulton, Jr., M.D., Ph.D., a world renown leader/pioneer/acne guru. Some people get clear quicker than 3 months, and I do have the rare client that takes 4 to 5 months to get clear, but on average it takes 3.

#1)My goal is to get you clear, and I do that by staying in close communication with you over the course of your acne treatments. #2) Each acne treatment is tailored for your specific skin type and acne type. #3) I change up you home care routine on a regular basis so that your skin stays challenged.

The most important part of the program has to do with you. It requires patience and compliance, which is why I will only treat people who are truly committed. If this sounds of interest to you, I would love to see you for a consultation. All my best!
