What is Adapalene?

Adapalene is in a class of retinoids that is commonly used to treat mild to moderate acne. Retinoids  (vitamin A derivative) have many functions, but as far as acne is concerned, retinoids help regulate the growth of epithelial cells, by speeding up the time it takes for new skin cells to reach the skin's surface - thus increasing the rate at which the skin sheds. This process is known as "cell-turn-over." By speeding up cell-turn-over, the skin becomes smooth, decongested, and less prone to breakouts. Approved in 1996 by the FDA to treat acne, Adapalene is available under the brand name Differin in a cream or gel base. Although it has proven superior stability to light and oxidation over tretinoin (ie: Retin-A), to consistently clear acne, acne products need to be used a part of an entire acne system. 916SKIN - Acne Treatment Clinic provides a comprehensive acne treatment program in Chico, CA - which includes an entire acne skincare system customized for individual acne types. Our acne clinic has proven extremely successful in treating mild to severe acne without the use of prescription acne medications.
