HEALING ACNE WITH HYDRATION...

ACNE SKINCARE PLANS CHICO, CA   916SKIN - ACNE TREATMENT CLINIC

It is a general rule of thumb, that first time visitors to the acne clinic have dehydrated skin. Acne and dehydration tend to go hand in hand for several reasons. First, the majority of acne sufferers we see tend to have oily skin, and as a result they are continually in a mind set of  "must degrease!" Second, many acne skincare products are designed to shed the outer layer of cells, and with that comes a certain degree of expected dryness. Lastly and most importantly, many over-the-counter acne products compromise the skin's integrity by stripping away its natural oils and leaving the skin susceptible to dehydration, breakouts and further set backs.

Healing acne and staying clear of acne both rely in part on keeping the skin hydrated. This includes hydrating internally and externally. Use of "humectants" in topical skincare products attract and bind water in the epidermis. Hyaluronic acid, glycerin and urea are common humectants that help hydrate the skin. An "occlusive" product should be used over the top of humectants to seal in the moisture. Dimethicone-based products serve as effective occlusive agents for acne-prone-skin because they do not clog, irritate or leave an oily residue. Hydrating and sealing the skin on a daily basis will provide some of the components needed to begin the healing and clearing process!
