What Causes Some Babies To Have Acne?

916SKIN - ACNE TREATMENT CLINIC IN CHICO, CA

Babies are exposed to their mother's sex hormones in the uterus. If mom has higher levels of testosterone, the baby's follicles will be stimulated, leading to larger pores. And, if the baby is genetically prone to acne, that baby may experience its first breakout. There is another factor that can affect a baby's pores...  During the infant's first 2 to 3 months out of the womb, its sex glands begin producing hormones. Think of this as a hormonal test run to make sure systems are up to speed - so that when puberty rolls around, the pores and secondary sex characteristics will be revin' to go! Both of the above scenarios can lead to a baby's first breakout - AKA: neonatal acne.

Don't fret, in most cases this is short lived. The acne will subside, and the large pores will transform into soft, supple newborn skin.
