How Does A Cyst Form?

916SKIN - ACNE TREATMENT CLINIC (530) 503.9169

There are different types of cysts, and in terms of acne, they can develop in one of two ways. Several + inflamed follicles can rupture at the same time and combine to form a much larger acne lesion. A cyst can also form when one follicle becomes inflamed, and white blood cells move to the area forming a pus-filled lesion containing keratin, bacteria and white blood cells. A cyst is typically 1cm or greater in diameter - about the size of the tip of your pinky.

Although popping a cyst yourself may seem rewarding, it can also be dangerous, and lead to infection if you don't take proper care. The removal of a large cyst may require local anesthetic & suturing.
