Salicylic acid is derived from the bark of the willow tree, and is most commonly known for roll in fighting acne. It is a type of beta-hydroxy acid that functions as a peeling agent to exfoliate congested acneic skin.  Over-the-counter acne products that contain salicylic acid will not clear your skin - you are throwing your money away!
