WHAT ARE MEDICAL GRADE PRODUCTS EXACTLY...

916SKIN -ACNE CLINIC PROVIDING ACNE SKINCARE PRODUCTS IN CHICO, CA

All too often the term "medical grade" gets used and abused as a marketing tactic. However, there is validity to this term when used properly. A medical grade skincare product contains a prescription amount of an active ingredient(s) that can only be purchased through a physician, or through a facility that has a medical director.

Although, not each product within a medical grade skincare system will have a prescription amount of active ingredients, specific products within that line will, and therefore, the entire line is termed "medical grade." This makes sense, as skincare systems are formulated to be used as a whole. The skincare products within that particular system, without prescription levels, will likely have higher concentrations of active ingredients when compared to other "non-medical grade" professional skincare products.

Obagi NuDerm is a great example of a medical grade skincare line, as several of the products within this system contain 4% hydroquinone - prescription strength. Conversely, hydroquinone at 2% is sold by non-physician skin health practitioners; whereas, over-the counter hydroquinones contain a fraction of that concentration. Medical grade skincare products are popular among acne patients and the anti-aging community due to their highly effective and potent formulations.

In short, medical grade skincare lines are typically more potent than non-medical grade professional skincare lines both in concentration and pH - and thus, provide better results. Medical grade products require an initial consultation  prior to purchase.
