There is a common skin condition known as xanthomatosis that may masquerade as acne or an allergic reaction. There are many types of xanthomas. They often point to an underlying lipid abnormality such as inefficient metabolism of fats, or in some cases, abnormal blood lipid levels. These fat-protein complexes leak out of vessels and accumulate underneath the skin. They may be found around the joints, hands, feet, and eye area generally after the age of forty. Xanthomas are typically yellow, but may also be pink, red, or flesh colored, may appear in clusters, have a waxy or velvety texture, and vary in size from a few millimeters to several inches in diameter.

Skin evaluations are available at 916SKIN. If your lesions cannot be identified as acne, you will be referred to a dermatologist in Chico, Ca.

We look forward to helping you get clear! 530.680.2027
