ROOT CAUSE OF ACNE

 Hello friends, clients often ask me what is the root cause of acne?

 

Here is a list of things that often get the blame for causing acne:

-drinking too much

-not enough sleep

-school, exams, mid-terms

-hormones, PMS

-ice cream, french fries, soda, coffee

-breaking up with boyfriend

-too much sun

-dehydration

While all of these things are acne triggers (for those who are prone to acne), they are not the root cause. The root cause of acne is... dum duh dum... bacteria. Specifically, the streptococcus bacteria. 

If you've ever had any of the following infections, your body likely harbors strep.

Sinus, strep throat, UTIs, toxic shock syndrome, bacterial vaginosis, ear infections, SIBO, pneumonia, meningitis, impetigo. 

These are some examples of strep. Taking antibiotics gets rid of the acute infection, but typically, the strep is not completely destroyed. The residual bacteria hide out in other tissue or organs in the body; mainly the liver. The liver provides a good source of fuel and protection. When we trigger acne with some type of stressor, it weakens our immune system, strep moves into the lymphatic system and into the skin, causing acne.
