While hiking today in a local park in the rural area of Coquitlam, British Columbia, I heard a branch snap in the bushes behind me. I turned and poked my nose into the bush expecting to see a deer, and BAM, there was a bear 10 feet in front of me! Mesmerized, I didn't move, just watched in aw of this majestic creature. Tomorrow, I'm heading for Whidbey Island, Washington and the Deception Pass area - can't wait! Perhaps, the surrounding communities are in need of an acne specialist out there.

It's day four of my road trip through the Pacific Northwest. So far, I've forgotten my purse with all my money, credit cards and passport in a restroom in which I had to drive back 2 hours to get. I've had a dead battery and a flat tire. Both the battery and the tire occurred in remote locations. In an attempt to prevent totally freaking out, and thus, breaking out, I've been exercising the Zen portion of my brain, which can be particularly challenging when your body is yearning for a big bowl of sustenance.

There's been a lot of deep breathing and snacking my way to tranquility - waiting for the Zen vibe to dominate me. As I crawled out of my tent to a lopsided truck this morning, I took some deep breathes, ate an apple with almond butter, took my B and C vitamins to support my adrenals, pulled out the manual and then proceeded to finesse my tire (that's not me in the photo - I was peaceful, not radiating joy).

Learning to manage stress can be one of the most difficult challenges, but can be an enormous help in controlling acne. When you feel the crazies sneaking in... just breathe.

Picking at your skin can be one of the most difficult habits to break. This "how to stop picking" tip comes directly from one of our clients. Her advice was to wear a little make-up whether you need it or not, whether you're going out or staying in. Having make-up on makes her feel pretty and put together and keeps her from picking at her skin because she doesn't want to mess up her makeup. If it works for her maybe it could work for you, too. Make sure your makeup is entirely non-comedogenic. Just because it says it is on the container doesn't mean it won't clog your pores.
