Why You Shouldn't Use A Wash Cloth

Acne management in Chico, Sacramento, Grass Valley, Auburn, Tahoe, Corning, Willows, Red Bluff, and Redding is available through 916 Acne, Skin & Wellness Clinic. 530.680.2027.

Patients involved in the 916SKIN - Clear Skin Program are often on an aggressive treatment plan. Cleansing your face with even the softest of wash clothes can be over stimulating. For reasons do not use a wash cloth when cleansing your face:

#1) Wash clothes harbor bacteria.

#2) They can shed skin prematurely. #2) They can shed skin unevenly.

#3) They can remove too many layers, making skin more sensitive to your home care system, which can lead to irritation, dryness, and potential set backs in your acne management.

How Much Water Should You Drink?

Help for acne in Chico, Red Bluff, Redding, Marysville, Yuba City, Sacramento is available through 916 Acne, Skin & Wellness Clinic. Please call the clinic to ask about our long distance program at (530)680.2027

In terms of acne, dehydration triggers a stress response, which can lead to breakouts in acne-prone individuals. How much water should you drink? It's recommended you drink half your weight in ounces every day. More when you exercise: 16 ounces, an hour before your workout. 4 to 8 ounces every 15 minutes during your workout. And, another 16 ounces after your workout. This seems like a lot of water - gulp! Get in the habit of taking a water bottle with you where ever you go...or work out less (just kidding). Hydration is essential for healthy cellular function, including the health of your skin as it promotes cell replication, repair, elasticity, and other youthful perks.

Acne and Retinols

Acne and Dermatology in Chico, Ca. is available through 916 Acne, Skin & Wellness Clinic. Please call the clinic for more information at (530)680.2027.

Just as skin types vary so do retinol products. When choosing a retinol-based product, do your skin a favor, and see a dermatologist, or a skin care professional.  It's important to choose a product that is suited for your skin type, your sensitivity level, and any existing conditions as pure retinols and retinol complexes are formulated differently and will have varying effects on your skin. Protocols also vary. Using a product incorrectly can leave you red, irritated, and broken out. The proper protocol, on the other hand, has the ability to physically transform your skin into a vision of health. To schedule an acne consultation, please contact 916SKIN.

Does Topical Vitamin C Help Acne.

Treatment for acne in Sacramento and Chico, CA is available through 916SKIN - Acne Clinic.
530.680.2027

Topical C serums are not correlated with the improvement acne, but they do help counteract the free radical damage caused by benzoyle peroxide, an active ingredient found in a variety of acne products. Topical vitamin c is widely known for its anti-aging benefits as a free radical scavenger.  Other benefits include lightening of hyperpigmentation (dark spots/areas), overall brightening of the skin, minimizing fine lines and crepiness, minimizing redness (when used in the correct percentage and pH). There are over 200 hundred topical c products currently on the market, but only a handful that have been proven to be efficacious.

SEARCHING FOR ACNE PRODUCTS...

916SKIN is an acne clinic serving Chico, Corning, Orland, Oroville, Red Bluff, Redding, and other surrounding areas. Our acne program clears skin in 3 to 4 months. 530.680.2027

When searching for acne products, you want to look for products that: 1) are non-comedogenic (non-pore-clogging)  2) that penetrate down into the follicle (pore)  3) are the proper pH  4) are part of an entire system.

Finding products that are non-comedogenic can be tricky. Often times, products will advertise they are non-comedogenic, but because there are no regulations, no universal list of comedogenicity, the integrity of each product is in the hands of the developer. Unfortunately, consumers are left asking the question "Why am I still breaking out?" Even professional products, prescription products, and the most efficacious products of all - can be comedogenic.

You want acne products that penetrate and work dynamically inside the follicle. First, they should act to slough off dead skin cells within the lining of the follicle. Second, they should act to kill bacteria. And third, if your acne is inflamed, you want products that put out the inflammation (control redness).

The term "pH balanced," sounds official, right?  Unfortunately, it doesn't carry a lot of weight, and in most cases it is used as a marketing ploy to get you to buy their products. Managing acne is most successful when you use an entire home care system in addition to your acne treatments. Using a "system" and using it properly is key to getting clear. Do not mix and match product lines. Choose one line and stick with it. A quality skin care system is formulated to work together, which means the pH of each product in your system is designed to compliment the other products. If want to mix and match products, leave it to your acne specialist to decide, as they have knowledge of the pH of each product and whether the ingredients are compatible.
